New TV shows based on Gangs of New York, The Holdovers, and more are being developed at Miramax.

According to a recent report from Variety, Miramax is developing new TV shows or limited series based on Martin Scorsese’s Gangs of New York and Alexander Payne’s The Holdovers. Miramax CEO Jonathan Glickman “hopes” that Payne will be involved in The Holdovers show, though his involvement has not been confirmed at this time.

What other TV shows is Miramax developing besides Gangs of New York and The Holdovers?

Besides Gangs of New York and The Holdovers, Miramax is developing new TV shows based on 2000’s Chocolat and 19996’s The English Patient.

The Chocolat TV show was originally reported on by Deadline in November 2022, while an announcement about The English Patient show was made in 2021. There’s been little to no news about either of these projects since then.

Gangs of New York was released in 2002. Scorsese’s historical drama epic was nominated for a handful of Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. It stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Daniel Day-Lewis, Cameron Diaz, and more.

The Holdovers also received its fair share of Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Paul Giamatti, while Da’Vine Joy Randolph won the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award. The film, which was released in 2023, also stars Dominic Sessa.

Chocolat is a romance film based on a 1999 novel of the same name by Joanne Harris. Directed by Lasse Hallström, it stars Juliette Binoche, Victoire Thivisol, Judi Dench, Alfred Molina, Johnny Depp, and Carrie-Anne Moss. It received Oscar nominations for Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Original Score.

Lastly, The English Patient is a romantic war drama based on a 1992 novel by Michael Ondaatje. Starring Ralph Fiennes and Binoche, the film is written and directed by Anthony Minghella. Oscar accolades include Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actress, and more.
