“Every child deserves a home.” The first trailer has debuted for an emotional documentary film titled The Davion Effect, made by the filmmakers Ken Nolan & GB Young. The fascinating new doc just premiered this week at the 2025 Sarasota Film Festival in Florida – and it’s playing again this weekend if you’re around and want to catch it. The life of a young child trapped in foster care in Florida takes an unexpected turn when he makes a very public plea for a forever home… This is the story of a boy named Davion. Born in a prison hospital and given up to the foster care system at birth, the very lovable Davion tells his story of moving from one foster home to another, and the significant people he met along the way. When, at age 13, his plea to a church congregation for anyone to take him as their own, to just love him and give him a home, goes viral, the world responds. This film seems like a brutally honest account of the many flaws of the foster care system, while also an optimistic story about how lives can change and how you really can find a family.

His heart-wrenching pleas resulted in thousands contacting the local foster care agency with interest in adopting him. With much hope & promise, he is then sent out of state to live with a well-meaning family. His lifelong dream of having a loving family unravels, yet his story ultimately ends in a surprisingly heartwarming turn of events. The Davion Effect is co-directed by filmmakers Ken Nolan & GB Young (also director of The Bartender Hates You, Prescription Thugs, “The Collapsing Wall”), making their first film together.
