Sodom is back with a new record called The Arsonist due out June 27 and a new single “Trigger Discipline” streaming right now. If anything, this single proves to the world that we probably don’t even need new Slayer – just keep giving us Sodom tunes like this and we’re good to go.
As for The Arsonist, it was recorded using a 24-track analog tape machine. To quote frontman Tom Angelripper: “No plastic! The difference in sound compared to today’s standard drum productions is amazing and has had a positive effect on all the instruments. Naturally, time and effort as well as costs were also higher, but we’re happy to fork out for a superior result.”
Tom Angelripper continued: “[Returning guitarist Frank Blackfire] contributed those typical Sodom riffs and hooks again, whereas [guitarist York Segatz] favors more epic songwriting. As a perfect complement to both of them, [drummer Toni Merkel], who is also an excellent guitarist, contributed a number of songs and helped to make the album even more versatile.”
